Fort Bend County students now have an opportunity to start off the year on a positive note by participating in Kroger’s Backpack Boosters school supply drive.
This program supports the district’s Whole Child Health Initiative, which addresses students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
Career and Technical Education
FBISD Skyward offers dynamic career pathways with real world experiences to develop students’ skill sets, attitudes and beliefs. Beginning in middle school, students gain experience in CTE through classroom activities and field trips as well as district-wide programs like guest speakers, job shadowing opportunities and internships. There are 14 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs of study offered that meet high school graduation endorsement requirements, and many offer industry recognized certificates or licenses upon completion of each course of study. Students can join national leadership and career organizations such as Business Professionals of America, Future Business Leaders of America, Health Occupations Students of America and Skills USA. James Reese Career and Technical Center offers advanced CTE programming to students from all high schools through various pathway options that include Agriculture and Natural Resources, Architecture and Construction, Arts and Audio/Video Technologies Communications Culinary Arts Business IT. In addition, Enterprise Learning Labs are open for public patronage so that students may gain real world experience while giving back to the local community.
Whole Child Health Initiative
Make sure that students remain physically healthy and safe by offering access to high-quality health education, nutrition and wellness programs.
Support children’s resilience by helping them recover from trauma, stress and overwhelming situations. Address children’s social needs by linking them with services and helping families navigate community and federal resources.
Assuring child health outcomes by integrating children’s social determinants of health into national and state policy decisions and delivery/payment reforms. A key tool is the Integrated Child Risk Index (ICRI), which offers valid national/state level information about complex risks in medical, social, relational domains for children as well as predicts significant outcomes such as child flourishing, educational readiness and emergency/forgone care utilization.
Create a framework, strategies and guidance to assist school leaders and community members as they explore the relationship between nature and mental health, such as outdoor activities providing a sense of calmness while offsetting stress, and improving overall mental wellbeing. Connect students and community members with evidence-based science proving this link between outdoor activities and mental wellbeing.
Student Recruitment
Student recruitment is an integral component of an institution’s strategic portfolio. It plays an integral part in driving excellence and increasing diversity within their student body while strengthening funding sources.
When creating a strategic recruitment plan, it is vital to establish its overall objective. This allows recruitment departments, admissions officers and enrollment to focus their efforts. Furthermore, team members will gain ownership over the plan which can make it even more effective.
As an example, the team could create and enforce a departmental policy regarding how quickly inquiries from prospective students will be responded to. They could also produce and distribute program flyers both online and at events for recruitment events in response to inquiries or at organized recruitment events. Ultimately, their goal should be encouraging prospective students to visit campus, shadow an event, and participate in one in order to see if it suits them well – while providing information regarding financial aid options or assistance opportunities if applicable.
Extended Day Program
District 20 offers an Extended Day Program (EDP) before and after school for elementary campuses across its districts. The curriculum of EDP teachers reflects their mission: “inspire and equip all students to pursue futures beyond what they can imagine.” Additionally, field trips help enhance learning. Parent and student feedback is collected using open ended surveys via Survey Monkey as well as personal observation by supervisors visiting each site.
Parents such as Nuvia Alviter of Ridgegate Elementary praise the Early Literacy Center as a major change agent for her son’s life. Before starting at ELC last year, Nuvia said her son didn’t know how to count or recite letters; thanks to ELC he now can read! Additionally, this program helped close gaps among schools with differing rates of economic disadvantage, leading TEA’s 2017-18 accountability ratings to give Briargate Elementary (which had the highest rate) an Outstanding rating – meeting every criteria necessary for achievement!
