What Happened to Junko Furuta?
Junko Furuta’s death stands out as one of the most shocking acts ever committed in Japan, and her ordeal spanning 44 days should never have had to go through such agony.
Junko Furuta was an outgoing 17-year-old with an outgoing personality and good looks, who made an impressionable first impression among her peers due to her radiant smile and lively disposition. Many teenagers dreamed of becoming popular just like Junko.
On November 25th 1988 while bicycling home from her baito (part-time job), Junko Furuta was attacked by a boy. Hiroshi Miyano noticed what had occurred and promptly stopped to assist.
Once she had been abducted, Miyano and his friends Nobuharu Minato, Kamisaku Jo, and Yasushi Watanabe subjected Junko Furuta to over 44 days of torture, inflicting over 500 rapes as well as inserting iron bars, scissors, fireworks, and other foreign objects into her vagina and anus; which resulted in severe burns and tears to her body.
How did Junko Furuta get kidnapped?
Junko Furuta was abducted by four teenage boys – one being Hiroshi Miyano – early morning of November 25, 1988.
Junko was taken hostage at their residence in Ayase, Adachi, Tokyo until her death.
As part of her torture, she was repeatedly raped each day as part of her ordeal, in addition to being slapped, hung from the ceiling, and having her genitalia burned by cigarettes and lighters.
Her eyelids and ears were swollen and she could barely walk; in addition, her bones had broken while internal organs had also been compromised.
For 44 days she was held captive by boys who beat and raped her until she had become completely dehydrated and malnourished, begging them to kill her; but they refused.
What happened to Junko Furuta after she was kidnapped?
Junko Furuta endured horrific abuse and torture during her 44 days in captivity; over 500 men raped her.
Her captors smuggled her into the home of one of their friends with yakuza ties – Minato Nobuharu – who held her captive and rapped her over 500 times before freeing her.
They hung her from the ceiling, beat her with golf clubs & iron rods, crushed her stomach, forced her to consume live cockroaches and drink her own urine, put her into a freezer for hours on end, used pliers to twist off one of her nipples with one bite, poured lighter fluid over her legs and even consumed blood from her wounds – eventually burning her body as well.
At last, she was so badly beaten that her body collapsed backwards and died. To cover up their crimes, the captors tried to dispose of the remains by either burning them in an oil drum or placing them underneath concrete slabs to disguise what had occurred.
What happened to Junko Furuta’s killers?
Furuta was a 17-year-old high school student when she was kidnapped, assaulted, and tortured by four teen boys from her high school. Their actions resulted in her death – which has come to be known as the “concrete-encased high school girl murder case.”
Hiroshi Miyano, J Ogura, Shinji Minato and Yasushi Watanabe have been identified as Hiroko Junko’s murderers; these four individuals pleaded guilty to “committing bodily injury which resulted in death” rather than outright murder, which allowed for lighter sentences than might otherwise apply.
However, many Japanese residents felt that these light sentences were unfair and did not do justice for three of the four killers who committed more crimes once released from jail.
Hiroshi Miyano, Jo Ogura, Shinji Minato and Yasushi Watanabe have not been seen publicly for some time; it is thought they have moved into low-profile lives at present to remain anonymous.
